Imogen Heap On Recording “Ellipse”

I had the awesome opportunity to attend a listening party hosted by Imogen Heap in LA a few weeks back. We had the chance to listen to the new album, ask questions, and hear a bit about the narrative behind the album itself. Sonically, Ellipse is not a far departure from Immi’s work with Guy Sigsworth, though she did do this album without him.

The first single, “First Train Home,” hearkens back to her pretty straightforward pop side, and honestly, it’s not my favorite song on the album. We also got the chance to watch the video for “Canvas” though, which was transformed into a multimedia experience through a video by Tom Kelly. When the song works in conjunction with the video, you can all but feel the cold wrapping around your skin.

I would bet that Amazon will have her album as the daily deal on August 25th, when it comes out stateside. Whether or not they do, I can guarantee you that it will be a Wax Pick. In the mean time, you can preview tracks, or pre-order the album here.

wax&wires tv – Episode 1 Now Available!

I’ve been sitting on this footage for much too long, trying to teach myself how to edit video, so that I could get a show up about music… is that irony or something else? Meanwhile, I haven’t had much time to post articles for you, since my time has been swallowed up with video. I will make a concerted effort to balance that out a little better. Now that I have a basic template for the show laid out, future videos should not take me as long to edit either.

I aim to crank out one episode every two weeks for you, and hope you enjoy. If you do, please be sure to comment it up and share with your friends!

Coldplay On 60 Minutes

If you missed Coldplay right before the Grammy’s on 60 minutes, you can catch it here. It’s a great short segment on the band, and includes a sneak preview of a new Christmas song Chris is drafting at about 12:00 in.

I love the bit about the “rules” that they have posted in their studio as well. I think it’s important, from a business standpoint, to name your purpose and write it out so that you never loose site of the vision you’re chasing down. Coldplay’s “rules” sheet is a prime example of that.

The Glitch Mob

I first heard The Glitch Mob when they were doing a bunch of improvised street performances in The City several months ago. I dug it then, and I dig it now. I found this series of videos when doing some research for the Pandora Ad story.

There’s actually a series of 3 videos on Pandora, I definitely recommend that you check them all out. The Glitch Mob is definitely pioneering a new sound; hyper-compressed, hard-driving, heavy-hitting, genre-defying electronic hip hop with the likes of Justice.
