I grew up on The Beach Boys, as they were one of my dad’s favorite groups; and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I had the awesome opportunity to catch Brian Wilson on his “Smile” tour back in 2005 and was even further inspired by his creative ingenuity; what I wouldn’t give to see the world as he sees it for a day.
AD just posted some wonderful audio of The Beach Boys in a rehearsal from 1967. Other than Mike Love making a complete fool of himself with some sarcastic commentary on Heroes and Villains, the songs are great. I like being able to hear them in a broken down and unpolished state.
You might also want to check out the a cappella versions of Sloop John B and Wouldn’t It Be Nice. I think those were some of my favorites.
I went ahead and put the audio for you below, since AD said they’d be pulling it down in 2 weeks (and that was last week).
Enjoy, and leave a comment!

This reminded me of paper route a lot.
I can hear some of the influence there.
Hearing these versions makes me appreciate the Beach Boys music even more. It seems very refreshing and yet is still just as exciting as when I was young! Fun, happy, sensitive music. I will likely be humming the tunes all day! Thanks for posting these.
