Wax Pick: Kate Havnevik – Melankton

Take your favorite bits of Imogen Heap, mix in some Bjork and a string quartet, and you’re pretty close to Kate Havnevik’s Melankton.

The Norweigan songstress’ debut album was released way back in 2006, but I had never heard it until recently, in spite of the flood of positive press hailing it as marvelous. Supposedly, Kate is working on a few projects including an acoustic endeavor called Embla. She releases her albums independently on her own Continentica Records, which she runs with her husband.

Kate has released a few singles this year (one just a few days ago) including Halo and Show Me Love, both of which are much pop infused than anything you’ll find on Melankton, but equally captivating.

Get some good stuff for the weekend.
