Yo-Yo MA Gets In The (re)Mix

Illustration: PabloAnd you thought user-submitted remixes were reserved for rock and hip-hop artists…

We’ve all seen the remix contests for artists like Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails. We’ve heard the mashups of Public Enemy, Jay-Z with Linkin Park and Radiohead. You might not expect to hear a name like Yo-Yo Ma in those ranks though. Well now, classical music fiends can get their shot at remixing some of their favorite cellist’s tunes as well.

Yo-Yo Ma has invited listeners to remix “Dona Nobis Pacem,” from his latest album, Songs of Joy & Peace. Users can collaborate virtually with Yo-Yo by adding counter-melodies or recording entirely new parts after downloading the stems from indabamusic.com.

The winner of the remix contest will get an opportunity to record with Yo-Yo Ma in a unique one-on-one collaboration. The winner’s submission will also be featured on Yo-YoMa.com, Yo-Yo’s MysSpace page, and on Indaba Music. The top ten entrants will receive a signed copy of Songs of Joy & Peace.
